Disney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend: Royal Family 5K Race Report:

Ah runDisney!  A runDisney 5K is what I like to call – “the gateway drug” to the runDisney races.  Once you experience a runDisney race, you just can’t stop.  The accomplishment makes you want to go back for another race, a longer race, and then another and another and another!

runDisney begins their race weekends with a Family Fun 5K.  Each weekend has a different theme and Disney’s Princess Half Marathon weekend’s theme is the Royal Family 5K.  It is open to all, including men, women, children, and there is even a stroller division!  The 5K’s are not timed events and are intended to promote family, fun and are not-to-be missed kick-offs to the main races!

The Royal Family 5K or 3.1 miles begins in Epcot’s parking lot.  As with January’s Marathon Weekend, runDisney has introduced corrals for the 5K.  There were corrals A, B, C, D and your assignment was based on when you registered for the race.

The Royal Family 5K’s course loops around World Showcase and ends back in Epcot’s parking lot.  Race start time is 6:30am which means you can sleep in and get up at 5am, get on the race bus, run your race and be back in your hotel room to shower before the parks open!

I normally don’t wear a costume for a runDisney event, but I had heard that I might feel out of place if I didn’t make an effort for Disney’s Princes Half Marathon Weekend.  So my running buddy, Alison, and I dressed for the occasion.

Knowing that it was going to be another hot and humid marathon weekend like in January, we decided to enjoy ourselves and stop at every character stop!  It seemed that there were more characters during this Family Fun 5K then at Marathon Weekend.  It also seemed that more racers were taking advantage of these character photo stops.

Alison’s high school friend, Sandy, was running her first runDisney 5K.  She had a blast and she is already thinking about her next runDisney event....maybe even Wine & Dine's Half Marathon weekend?  runDisney’s Royal Family 5K…..runDisney’s gateway to more magical miles!
